NOTES ♫ NEWS and VIEWS for February 21, 2012

It is with sadness that I begin this week’s commentary with news of the passing of Rainey Green, wife of long time Town & Country Chorus member Warner Green. Following is the announcement as received from their daughter Deana.

“ As you all know my mom has been fighting a long battle which started in February of 2011.  On Thursday 2/16/12 my mom died peacefully at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence with my dad, three of her four children and a few of her grandchildren present.  My dad is holding up as well as can be expected and he is looking forward to Tuesday 2/21 as all the planning and services will be done and he can try to get back some sense of normalcy even though all of our lives have changed.  My mom loved going with my dad to barbershop events, listening to his quartet practice at their home in Florida and was so happy to have met Pastor John and watch my dad in the choir.  Below is a short obituary in the Battle Creek Enquirer with information on the services if interested.  Please send any prayers you have to him and our family as my mom will be missed by so many.  Thank you for all your support and friendships – “ Deana

Eurane "Rainey" (Dehn) Green Homer Eurane "Rainey" (Dehn) Green, age 71, died Thursday, February 16, 2012. Visitation Sunday February 19, 2012 f 2:00 -5:00 p.m. at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr.,, Albion. Services Monday February 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 309 Sophia St., Homer.

Warner, our thoughts and prayers are certainly with you and your family.

Thank you to the quartets who sang Valentines last week. Several of you shared your experiences of the day and it is evident that you touched many hearts and lives with your singing. Doing some quick figuring in my head (this is not good for me to do that) produced a figure of around 40 +/- Singing Valentines performed. Great job guys!

It was good to see Colton Easterday and John Harden back again last week. And first timer Rick Schneider was there as a guest of Bob Snow. Now here is an incentive for the rest of us. Bob is 1,000 miles away and his guest attends our rehearsal. This is great! Anyway, it was an honor to all of us to have you, Colton, John and Rick sing with us and our hope is that you continue to do so.

August 5th sing-out at the Branch County Fair in Coldwater is now officially on the calendar. Yes, August is a long way off but summer months fill up quickly so please get this date entered in your calendars.

Congratulations to Mike Rindenour on winning the raffle last week. We missed hearing Terry Marr’s 90 second life history but look forward to getting that in this week.

Don has put two new learning tracks up and, well, I’ll just let Don explain it in his own words.

“New learning tracks are uploaded to rogerbrook.com/music for Bye Bye, Love and Who Put the Bomp?  Bye Bye Love has a cleaner sound and should be labeled correctly this time (I think I mislabeled the CD I gave Roger the last time).  Who Put the Bomp has been updated with the repeat of the final chorus and the lead and baritone parts now are the same as the music on the tag.  I couldn't figure out how to delete the old files, so the new ones have 2/12 as the upload date and the description includes the word (good).  Hope this helps you out.” Thank you Don. (Note from Roger: the old ones have been deleted from the learning track archive.)

Keep after the music, show time is just not that far away. Stay healthy and I’ll see you Tuesday.

Gary
